Some months ago, Evelyn Burke, Theo and Katie Coughlan approached the Titans Basketball Club, expressing an identifiable need for Basketball or other sports related training opportunities for young people in Galway who have a condition known as Dyspraxia.Folowing Dialogue with the Coaches the girls became the co-ordinators of this training. They began some weeks ago and though initially, were primarily, doing so at the request of another mother of a child who has Dyspraxia they thought it might be a great opportunity to use the course as accreditation for their transition year programme requirements. It started slowly( nobody for the first six weeks) but the girls persevered and they now have three young people attending and another en route. They sourced and recieved guidance and direction from Enable Ireland who were running a one day course on D.C.D.( a condition with presenting similarities re co-ordination diffuculties). The Titans covered the use of the gym to date and a mother(Shivaun) is providing the adult supervision for the sessions from 4.30-5.30pm each Wedenesday at the Westside. The girls, two of whom, having met their course requirements and the other not recieving any recognition or support from her own school are quite committed to this group despite these minor adversities and have requested that the club continue to provide funding for the training time, offer free membership to the group and facilitate same for the rest of the season subject to numbers and attendance.!Go Teen Titans!
