Tonight in St.Marys, a crowd of about 60 adults were treated to an exhilarating and refreshing Basketball Game between two competitive sides who just attacked the Basket with equal abandon, leading to an entertaining game of Basketball and a wonderful atmosphere at St.Marys.
Titans Coach Langan, is fortunate to have several good guards who can handle the ball in the open court and having surrounded them with some strapping forwards was in a unusual position when trying to select balanced 5’s to represent each quarter.
The first quarter began with Matthew Sweeney and Dean Coughlan leading the charge, with Ben Kelly, Darragh Mannion and Brian Chege hitting the boards and winning rebounds both ends of the floor, recycling the ball and setting screens for their guards, while Matthew Man of the Match Sweeney weaved his way to the basket with aplomb..Titans 8-Moycullen 5;
The second quarter had Mark and Kevin running the floor, and getting their hands to everything, while Joseph Coughlan and Neil Kelly controlling the offence and hitting some fine shots into the bargain.Young Robert McDonnell is such a fast young fella that he seemed to be everywhere at once, defending,stealing and fast breaking, Titans were up 6 at the half.
In the second half, the crowd were introduced to the delightful skills of another rising star Robert McNulty, who benefited from the rebounding and quick outlet passing of Shane Killelea and the ever improving Ben Kelly, before methodically, navigating his way down court to safely hit the Bigmen with strong bounce passes or give it to the Dean, to set up the offence.
The final quarter, both teams went for it, with a Moycullen full court press testing the silken skills of Joseph Coughlan and the tenacious Neil Kelly..the boys held their resolve however, demonstrating some beautiful moves in the process, on their way to an 18-10 win,which keeps them Top of the League.
