Wheelers traveled to Athlone to play the much fancied Athlone boasting double paralympic Champion Mark Rohan in their team. Wheelers got off to a flying start with great defensive work by Stephen Melvin and Gerry McLoughlin not allowing the Steelers to get many rebounds, this was helped by Loic Bocquet and Keith Connolly hitting their baskets. In the second quarter, the Athlone side began a full court press and brought them back into the game. Bartley Walsh came on, the Connamara mans presence really steady the ship and Wheelers once again got the upper hand in the match. The 3rd quater saw the introduction of Katie O’Brien, the 16 year played a brilliant match and in only her 2nd outing in wheelchair basketball. The determination of this young Kilcolgan lady shows no bounds as she went up against the world and paralympic champion Rohan. In the final quater saw the introduction of young Dylan McLoughlin, the Carnmore man who also in 2nd match played with style and panache and was unlucky not to add to add to the basketball he scored in his first outing the previous week.
After 2 away matches next up for the Wheelers is a home match against a tricky Limerick side.
Wheelers would like to thanks all their sponsors, especially, Londis Kilcolgan, who sponsored the new set of jerseys which arrived just before the match.
