Transition Year Refereeing Course Announced

Basketball Ireland in association with the N.R.C. (National Referees Committee), Galway Local Sports Partnership and NUI Galway are pleased to announce the introduction of a Transition Year Officiating program for secondary schools in Galway.

Starting in September the course will have a duration of 10 weeks.

This course will enable the course participants to referee local league games accompanied by a qualified referee and they will get their accreditation from the N.R.C.

The course modules will include Communications, Strength & Conditioning, Sports Psychology etc and will be delivered by Mr. John Moran.

John, a former Irish schools international and a top national league referee has returned  from the U.K. where he was head of maths in Reading and Slough secondary schools.

Commenting on the inclusion of John on the TY Program Tony Burke the N.R.C. lead on the program said “Johns passion for the game and academic qualifications will ensure the correct delivery of the program and we look forward to working with John going forward.”

Each participant will receive their own official referees shirt & course T shirt and whistle.

The support of the Galway L.S.P. has enabled the course cost to be a very affordable €50.00 per participant and positions are available to be booked immediately by registering here.
