Don’t Weight Dads

HSE West, dedicated Health Professionals and Titans basketball club have partnered to bring ‘Don’t Weight Dad’s’ a summer program designed to support and instil confidence in parents and children to achieve a healthier weight and lifestyle.

Every overweight Dad would wish to prevent their child from becoming an unhealthy weight with all the future health risks that brings. This programme can start to turn this hope into a reality. It will help prevent children who are now an unhealthy weight from putting on any more weight and will encourage Dads to lose weight, through better nutrition and a reduction in sedentary behaviour by increasing physical activity.

Dads along with their child (age 8-13) are asked to sign up for this free 8 week course which will be supported by Dietitians, Nutritionists, GP’s and other qualified professionals to provide supports, information and skills.

Don’t Weight Dad’s will teach & demonstrate to parents Long Term Athletic Development (LTAD) which is a child centred approach to teaching the right skill at the right time relevant to their child’s  stage of development rather their  age in years. LTAD not only covers physical but also emotional, mental, personal, nutritional and lifestyle development. One of the goals is to arm parents and child with the knowledge to take control of their lifestyle. This is done through simple and effective actions and techniques taught by a team of dedicated professionals all working to give confidence to Dads and their child to lead a healthier lifestyle and attain a healthy weight moving forward.

So we ask Dad’s to not wait any longer. If you are interested in a change for the future – not just for the summer then contact Caroline on or phone Lisa on 091-548420 to find out more.

Places are limited so act now.

The program starts on Tuesday July 30th at Westside Community Centre runs every Tuesday and Thursday till mid September from 6-7:30pm. It will include physical activity as well as sessions with health professionals but most of all it will be a great opportunity for Dad’s and their child to bond and have fun together while improving their health and wellbeing.
